Rajasthan Travel Guide
Where Every Fort Tells a Story, and Every Desert Wind Whispers History.
There are places you visit, and then there are places that stay with you.
Rajasthan belongs to the second kind.
The desert wind carries old legends. Forts rise like guardians above blue and golden cities. Temple bells echo through quiet mornings while bazaars burst into color by afternoon.
Traveling through Rajasthan is not just sightseeing — it is walking through centuries of courage, devotion, romance, and royal life.
On The Roaming Rhyme, this page gathers every Rajasthan story, itinerary, and guide written from the road — for travelers who want more than just a checklist.
Why Rajasthan Feels Different
Some destinations impress you. Rajasthan immerses you.
• Cities painted in blue, pink, and gold
• Forts that look carved from the sky
• Desert sunsets that silence entire landscapes
• Hidden towns where time still walks slowly
• Music, devotion, and folklore woven into daily life
Rajasthan is one of the best-connected states in India, making it easy to begin your journey from almost anywhere.
By Air
Rajasthan has several well-connected airports:
Jaipur International Airport – The busiest airport in the state, with domestic and limited international connections.
Udaipur Airport (Maharana Pratap Airport) – Ideal for reaching the lake city directly.
Jodhpur Airport – Convenient for exploring western Rajasthan.
Jaisalmer & Bikaner Airports – Smaller airports with limited connectivity.
Most travelers start their journey in Jaipur or Udaipur.
By Train
Rajasthan is extensively connected by the Indian Railways. Major railway stations include:
Jaipur Junction
Udaipur City
Jodhpur Junction
Bikaner Junction
Ajmer Junction
Luxury trains like the Palace on Wheels also offer a royal way to explore the state.
Trains are often the most scenic and comfortable way to travel across Rajasthan.
By Road
Rajasthan has excellent highways connecting it to Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
Jaipur is about 5–6 hours from Delhi by road.
Udaipur and Jodhpur are well connected by national highways.
Self-drive road trips are popular, especially for exploring smaller towns like Bundi or desert routes near Jaisalmer.
Getting Around Within Rajasthan
Private taxis are the most comfortable option for multi-city trips.
Trains connect major cities efficiently.
Buses are available but less convenient for short itineraries.
For a 15-day trip, a mix of train + cab works well.
How to Reach Rajasthan
Rajasthan changes character with every season, but some months make the journey far more comfortable.
Winter (October –March)
This is the best time to explore Rajasthan. The weather is pleasant, days are perfect for sightseeing, and evenings in the desert feel magical. Festivals, cultural events, and lively bazaars add to the experience.
Summer (April – June)
Summers can be extremely hot, especially in desert regions like Jaisalmer and Bikaner. Travel is still possible, but most sightseeing is best done early in the morning or evening.
Mansoon (July – September)
The monsoon brings a quieter and softer side of Rajasthan. Cities like Udaipur and Bundi look greener, crowds are fewer, and the landscapes feel refreshed.
Best Time to Visit Rajasthan
Day 1–3 — Jaipur
Begin your Rajasthan journey in the Pink City.
Spend your days exploring Amber Fort, wandering through Jaipur’s lively bazaars, visiting the City Palace, and watching the sunset from Nahargarh Fort. Jaipur also offers some of the best cafés, street food, and cultural experiences in Rajasthan.
Day 4 — Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore)
Leave the city behind and head toward the wild landscapes of Ranthambore.
Sawai Madhopur is the gateway to Ranthambore National Park, one of India’s best places to spot tigers. Morning and evening safaris take you through ancient forests, ruined temples, and old hunting grounds once used by royal families.
Even outside the jungle, the atmosphere feels raw and historic.
Day 5 — Bundi
Bundi feels like a forgotten painting of Rajasthan.
Taragarh Fort rises above a town filled with blue houses, hidden stepwells, quiet streets, and palace murals that still whisper stories from another era. It’s one of the most atmospheric towns in the state.

Day 6 — Chittorgarh
Travel to the legendary fortress of Chittorgarh.
This vast hilltop fort is one of the most powerful symbols of Rajput courage. Walk through its gates, palaces, towers, and temples while hearing stories of sacrifice, honor, and centuries of battles.
History feels alive here.
Day 7–9 — Udaipur
Udaipur slows everything down.
Boat rides across Lake Pichola, palace balconies overlooking the water, evening lights reflecting across the lake, and café terraces in the old city create a completely different rhythm of travel.
Take your time wandering the narrow streets and enjoying the calm beauty of Rajasthan’s most romantic city.

Day 10–12 — Jodhpur
Welcome to the Blue City.
Mehrangarh Fort rises dramatically above a maze of blue houses. Spend time exploring the fort’s museums, walking through the markets near the clock tower, tasting local dishes, and watching sunsets from rooftop cafés overlooking the city.
Jodhpur perfectly blends royal history with everyday life.

Day 13–14 — Bikaner
Head deeper into Rajasthan’s desert landscapes.
Bikaner offers a quieter but incredibly rich experience — from the powerful walls of Junagarh Fort to bustling old streets and the unusual Karni Mata Temple nearby. The desert culture here feels authentic and less crowded.

Day 15 — Pushkar
End your Rajasthan journey in the sacred town of Pushkar.
Walk around the holy Pushkar Lake, visit the rare Brahma Temple, explore the colorful market lanes, and watch the sunset from the Savitri Temple overlooking the town. Pushkar offers a peaceful and spiritual closing to the journey.

Rajasthan isn’t just a destination — it’s a slow unfolding of colors, cultures, and centuries of history.
If you have around 15 days, this route allows you to experience both the famous icons and the quieter corners that many travelers often miss.
